2009 Convention Servant Event

Each year, the children and youth at the convention participate in a servant event to help othersin need. This year, they are collecting Bibles for distribution at the Brenner Children’s Hospital on the campus of the Baptist Hospital
in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The hospital will distribute Bibles to children ages 2-10.The adults will collect large-print Bibles for older patients at the Baptist Hospital and residents of nursing facilities in the Greensboro area.

Children and youth will also make prayer cards and memory labels to be placed in each Bible.

According to Randy Killian, Convention Committee chairman, “We encourage convention attendees to bring new Bibles to donate or bring extra money to purchase Bibles at the convention. Our goal is for LLL groups in North Carolina and convention attendees to donate 500 children’s and youth Bibles and 500 large-print Bibles.”

Children’s Bibles will be available for purchase for $5 and large print Bibles for $11.

Although CPH categorizes this as a pew Bible it does not say pew Bible on the cover.  It is a very durable hardback cover with high quality paper and clear simple layouts.  This Bible includes the orders of daily prayers, other prayers, a brief introduction to the Bible and the small catechism.

Children’s Bible Stories is a hard cover 160 page selection of favorite stories told in a way that not only brings them vividly to life for young children, but also encourages them to read the Bible for themselves as they grow older. Each story communicates the message God has for His people through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

This book closely follows the New King James version of the Bible.  Bright, colorful, and historically accurate illustration help inform while holding the child’s attention.  The content includes 25 Old Testament and 17 New Testament stories that help readers see God’s great plan for forgiveness and salvation.

REACH is a two-day conference that addresses the unique outreach challenges of people in their 20s and 30s by equipping them to effectively engage their community for Christ, and teaching them how to share the life-saving message of Jesus’ love in a way that is natural and informed.

REACH 2009 takes an environmental tone, delving into the question of how Christians should view themselves in relation to the world around them. In-depth Bible studies provide a biblical foundation for why we should care about God’s creation and inspire attendees to delight in it.

Special workshops will equip people to move from caring for creation to sharing the Creator, Redeemer, and Sustainer of it with others and prepare them to answer objections to the faith that deal with creation and evolution.

Join us for REACH 2009 on July 17-18 at the Sheraton hotel in Greensboro, NC!

REACH is held in conjunction with Lutheran Hour Ministries’ International Convention held from July 16-19, 2009. REACH attendees are invited to come early or stay late to learn more about how Lutheran Hour Ministries can help you and your congregation share Christ around the world.
